Movie Summary of Surrogates by Michael the Moviegoer.

SURROGATES = **

“Blade Bummer”

Movie plots, no matter how bad, still require some degree of logic to work. Science Fiction is the exception to that rule because it sometimes creates its own logic. “Surrogates”, a new sci-fi action flick starring Bruce Willis, simply defies logic.

Imagine a future where all real live humans become reclusive shut-ins while their supermodel-good-looking synthetic robots go out and experience life for them. How did our society come to this? That is never explained. It’s just meant to be accepted despite an enormous lack of logic.

The surrogates are controlled by their real-life “operators” wearing some sort of headset. Suddenly someone discovers a way to kill the humans by destroying their surrogates while they are operating. There doesn’t seem to be any logic for the motivation of these acts or how the killer benefits from them.

And, at this point, if you can’t understand what I’m talking about, there is no hope for you to understand a single plot element in this crappy movie.

Even the CGI effects look cheesey. The film’s best moment is when thousands of surrogates are simultaneously switched off and streets full of bodies instantly drop to the ground. This scene plays best because it is essentially a large choreographed production number. If only the rest of the film were as exciting.

DVD Double Feature: Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner” from 1982 starring Harrison Ford still reigns as the “holy grail” of sci-fi films in which humans interact with human-like androids.
